On behalf of His Holiness The Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang, the Drikung Kagyu Institute would like to extend our sincere gratitude and congratulations to the State and Central Indian Government for the declaration of Kushinagar Airport, in Uttar Pradesh as an International Airpot. A few months ago we had the good fortune to meet with Hon. Minister of Civil Aviation, Hardeep Singh Puri and we requested their help to develop the Great Sharavasti project and air connectivities to the Buddhist sites. Honorable Minister assured us he will put this into action.

We also met Hon. Minister of Culture and Tourism, Prahalad Singh Patel to respectively share our plans. They both expressed enthusiasm and were supportive of such a noble cause. As you know, for many years, His Holiness the Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang, constantly has been working on the development of the Holy land of Shravasti where Lord Buddha spent 25 years living in the monastery of Jetavana and where he delivered many his sermons. According to the history of Buddhism, it was at Shravasti that Lord Buddha displayed many miraculous powers. His Holiness already built the Great Shravasti Centre and every year he has been hosting the Great Shravasti Buddhist Culture Assembly since 2015.

Last year, to revive the Summer Retreat that was initiated by Lord Buddha 2564 years ago at Jetavana Park, Shravasti, His Holiness invited 108 Theravada monks from neighboring countries and conducted three- month long Summer Retreat which was very successful.

Under the blessing and guidance of His Holiness The Drikung Kyabgon, his main organisation The Drikung Kagyu Institute (DKI) and our partners International Buddhist Confederation (IBC) Centre for Sustainable Research and Development (CSRD), Ahmedabad, and World Citizens Organization (WCO), Seoul, Korea have been working constantly to fulfill His Holiness vast vision for the Holy land of Great Shravasti. We pray and hope that Kushinagar International Airpot is a milestone among many to come, namely to develop all other Buddhist sites and airport connectivities very soon.
