Kagyu College

Advanced studies in Buddhist Philosophy are a necessary foundation for the preservation and spread of the vast and profound Buddha Dharma for the benefit of all sentient beings.

Kagyu College was established in order to preserve an unbroken lineage of teachings. It is an institute of traditional higher Buddhist philosophical and scriptural study. Emphasis is put on training a sufficient number of qualified monks to serve future generations.

Kagyu College applicants are selected from among Drikung Kagyu monasteries and Tibetan settlements in India, Nepal, Bhutan and Tibet on the basis of intelligence, educational background, character, and commitment to serve as future teachers and monastic leaders.

In the College (Sherdra) all interested monk students are able to study the various branches of Buddhist philosophy.

For the best and most systematic education in Buddhist teachings, the College provides the students with all necessary study materials, including several very rare and scarce scriptures. From time to time the College invites learned scholars to participate in organized debates and seminars on the Dharma. The complete course of study in the College takes nine years.
