Most Venerable Nubpa Rinpoche (12th reincarnation) was born in 1942. Even before Nubpa Rinpoche was born, he was recognized by the His Holiness the 34th Drikung Kyabgon Konchok Tenzin Shiwai Lodro as one of the six important reincarnated Lamas who looked after the Drikung Thil Monastery. Nubpa Rinpoche was then given the dharma name Konchok Tenzin Gonpo Yonten Gyatso by His Holiness the 34th Drikung Kyabgon. At a very young age, Nubpa Rinpoche entered the Drikung Thil Monastery to undergo ritual learning and practice. Nubpa Rinpoche also learned the thirteen major texts of the Sutra, Abhidharma, and Vinaya. According to historical records, the first Nubpa Rinpoche Sekyong Gonpo Gyaltsen was recognized as the emanation of the Four-Arm Mahakala.
Most Venerable Nubpa Rinpoche studied under many masters at Nechung Buddhist Institute in Lhasa before going to the Tibetan Language Department of the Advanced Buddhits Institute in Beijing. Nubpa Rinpoche received many teachings, oral transmissions and practice instructions from great masters of the various different traditions. Among all of these, the main teachings Nubpa Rinpoche received are of the Drikung Kagyu lineage.
As Nubpa Rinpoche is very well-versed in the Chinese language, he is very active in text editing and translation projects. In particular, he has put together the collection of the 25th Drikung Kyabgon Rigzin Chodak for publication. Nubpa Rinpoche has made tremendous contribution to the protection of Tibetan Buddhist Culture.
In 1997, Nubpa Ripoche overcame great difficulties before arriving at the holy place of Lapchi. At Lapchi, Nubpa Rinpoche did both short and long retreats. He also guided over 30 monks to do their three-year retreat in a Lapchi retreat center. In 2002, Nubpa Rinpoche was specially requested by the two Holinesses to be responsible for the establishment of the Drikung kagyu Religious Society and its future Dharma activities.
