There were participants from 82 different countries; totaling 1,600 people and a total of about 10,000 persons attended the event which was joyful and awesome.

The International Drikung Council Members did a wonderful job in organizing such a huge event after tirelessly working for one year ahead the event.

The stage was decorated by a fresh flowers and two high thrones and tables for His Holinesses Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang and H.H. the Drikung Kyabgon Chungtsang, where a very modern tent structure was built to accommodate the participants. At the background of the stage, there was a huge poster of Lord Shakyamuni Buddha, below which there was a thangkha of Jigten Sumgon, and scriptural texts and 800 statues of Lord Jigten Sumgon were displayed on the both sides. Beautifully handcrafted offerings of butter sculpture as well as seven offerings were laid out on the altar, and flowers adorned the entire stage.

The religious rituals and the Cham performance as well as other cultural events were beautifully staged. There was an initiation given by H. H. the Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang. There were also teachings and other debates and discussion by the monks and nun. Nuns did very well in the debating event, and was amazing to see Drikung nuns could now go on stage in front of thousands of people and debate. It was their first public debate. H40A3435

Tea was served twice a day and there were craft shops, bookstores, fast food tents, tea and fresh juice stalls. The monastery medical clinic was also busy with patients who had travelled from far-flung regions.

The Chief Guest was to be H. H. Karmapa, but he was in the United States, and he sent a video in which he mentioned that he is not in good health, so he could not attend this event. President of the Central Tibetan Administration, Dr. Lobsang Sangay was present. The Governor of Uttarakhand, Mr. K.K. Paul was another Guest of Honour, and main Representatives from other Monasteries were also attended. Among them was the Dagmo Kalden, wife of the Throne Holder of Sakya, who represented the Sakya Lineage of Tibetan Buddhism.

One afternoon was set-aside for Environmental Conservation, Go Green Go Organic, and aspiration of His Holiness to benefit all sentient beings. Chief Guest was H.H. Swami Chidananda Saraswati from Rishkesh and the Uttarkhand Speaker as well as the Tourist Minister. His Holiness will work with the Swami on environment conservation and to plant one million trees in Northern India. Swami mentioned that two individuals working for the benefit of others would unite in one soul. Swami ji has a project to clean the Ganga. After the ceremony everyone went to clean the surroundings. Many of the foreigners also joined in this work. DSC04387
