International Drikung Kagyu Council
Honoured to organise the 800th Commemoration of Lord Jigten Sumong's Maha Parinirvana.
After a long search for a suitable location, a beautiful four acre site was found in Durban, South Africa, and after extensive repairs to the buildings on the property a new Drikung Kagyu Tibetan Buddhist Centre was ready to open - the first on the continent of Africa.
Drupon Samten Rinpoche travelled from California to make the final preparations for the arrival of HH the Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang on 31 May 2017 who came to offficially open the new Drikung Kagyu Centre given the name Drikung Samtenling. He was warmly received by the Durban Tibetan Buddhist Community who greeted him with music, flowers and white khatags.
HH performed the official Consecration of the new Drikung Samtenling Meditation Centre, and also gave a teaching on the Three Layers of Protection, Healing Meditation and gave the Medicine Buddha Empowerment. He also did a refuge ceremony for many Sangha members. The events concluded with a public talk by HH on Training the Mind to Achieve Happiness in Everyday Life. After the teachings members of the local African community welcomed him with traditional Zulu dancing. HH was delighted with the new Drikung Centre in Africa and we were blessed by his prayers for health and healing, peace and prosperity for all in Africa and the world.
