The Drikung Kagyu Order was founded in 1179 by Kyobpa Jigten Sumgön. It is headed by the two Kyabgon Rinpoches, His Holiness the Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang and His Holiness the Drikung Kyabgon Chungtsang. While Chungtsang Rinpoche resides in Lhasa, Chetsang Rinpoche has established the Drikung Kagyu seat in exile in Dehra Dun, in the northeast of India.
On 1st of November, 2013, His Holiness the Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang arrived at Rinchenling Monastery, at Nayapati, in Nepal.

His Holiness the Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang was invited to the Fifth Annual Drukpa Council at Drukpa Kagyu Jangchub Chöling Monastery in Hemis, Ladakh, as chief guest. On 1 September 2013, he was received with a warm welcome at Hemis Monastery with all the traditional ceremonies and procession.

On July 16, His Holiness the Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang commenced the inauguration ceremony for the newly built Hevajra Temple at Phyang Monastery in Ladakh. Thousands of people gathered for the celebration and teachings at the monastery.
