The Drikung Kagyu Order was founded in 1179 by Kyobpa Jigten Sumgön. It is headed by the two Kyabgon Rinpoches, His Holiness the Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang and His Holiness the Drikung Kyabgon Chungtsang. While Chungtsang Rinpoche resides in Lhasa, Chetsang Rinpoche has established the Drikung Kagyu seat in exile in Dehra Dun, in the northeast of India.
On June 8 , 2015, at His Holiness Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang and Trichen Rinpoche arrived in Los Angeles International Airport, and were warmly welcomed by many disciples headed by Lama Thupten Nima, Abbot of Drikung Rinchen Choling. After leaving the Airport, some members offered a welcoming lunch to His Holiness at a local restaurant.
His Holiness the Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang arrived Mexico City on 2nd June 2015, HH was warmly received at the airport by Mr. Alex Haddad, Mrs. Fanny Ryzeman the President of the Drikung Kagyu Mexico, Mr. Marco Antonio Karam, the President of the Casa Tibet Mexico, most Ven. Drupon Samten Rinpoche, Acharya Gyursam and all the Sangha Members of the Drikung Kagyu Lineage in Mexico City. OnHH gave teachings and explanation of the beautiful songs of Milarepa at the Soumaya Museum from . Everybody was very happy to hear the wonderful songs of the Great Yogi of Tibet, the Milarepa.
His Holiness Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang and entourage arrived in Lima, Peru on the evening of May 14, greeted with great fanfare by Drikung Kagyu disciples from Peru, Chile & other South American countries, to the accompaniment of traditional Peruvian musicians and dancers. This marked the beginning of the 2015 Andean-Peruvian Pilgrimage with over 30 participants from Bhutan, Taiwan, United States, Canada, and other Central and South American countries.
On a beautiful, sunnymorning in Asheville, North Carolina, many members and others, old and young, monastic and lay, lined the sidewalk outside Urban Dharma (UD) to welcome His Holiness in a joyous fusion of traditional Tibetan and local Appalachian customs. His Holiness and Trichen Rinpoche were greeted by UD founder and spiritual director, Dorjé Lopön Dr. Hun Lye and led into the center amidst shower petals showering from the sky, bubbles billowing from the ground, and live Appalachian Bluegrass music pervading all directions.

His Holiness Drikung Kyabgön Chetsang was formally appointed as a United Nations Mountain Partnership Ambassador by Eduardo Rojas-Briales, Assistant Director-General for Forestry of the Food and Agricultural Organization of the UN (FAO) on the afternoon of May 6 at the Stimson Center in Washington, DC. The Stimson Center is one of the leading think tanks in the United States focusing on "pragmatic solutions for global security."
His Holiness the Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang visited Drikung Dharma Surya Centre on 30th April to 3rd may 2015, at Virginia, USA. for the Amitabha Millions Mantras for World peace.
All the people waited out side and greeted Holiness and invited into the hall by Ven. Khenpo Samdrup and all the members of the centre. There His Holiness gave the teaching on Amitabha prayers and lead the recitation of the Amitabha Mantra. After lunch, His Holiness gave an empowerment of Buddha Amitabha for all the people.
As invited by the Rubin Museum, His Holiness the Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang visited to observe the age old traditional arts and paintings of the Drikung Kagyu Lineage of Tibetan Buddhism which were displayed at the Rubin Museum, USA from 24th April to. On 24th April His Holiness was received by Prof. David P. Jackson the author of “The Painting Tradition of the Drikung Kagyu School”, staff members of the Rubin Museum and some of the followers of Drikung Kagyu Lineage.
Immediately following the Lapchi Pilgrimage, on 10 April, His Holiness flew down to Kathmandu and then to Delhi, and a few days later on to Zurich in Switzerland. He was accompanied by Tritsab Gyabra Rinpoche, whilst Nyidzong Trichen Rinpoche had flown on ahead to prepare for his arrival.
On the evening of 16 April, in Winterthur, a book launch was held for the second revised English edition of His Holiness's magnum opus, A History of the Tibetan Empire. Around forty people attended and His Holiness gave a most interesting conference on the early history of Tibet. This was translated into both English and German. A question and answer session followed.
On 12th April, 2015, His Holiness was invited as chief guest for the inauguration and opening ceremony of the newly built Million Mani Temple of the Limi Association in Kathmandu, Nepal. A representative and officers of the Government of Nepal, representatives of the Communist Party, representatives from the Tibet Bureau, and many other officials and dignitaries were present.
Announcement to all Drikung Kagyu Monastery, Nunneries, Centers and Organizations. I deeply appreciate that Drikung Kagyu Rinpoches, Monks, Nuns, Followers, Centers and Organizations are doing relief-work, saving lives and helping directly and indirectly victims of the recent earthquake deeply affected Nepal and neighbouring areas. After this initial and enourmous task of saving lives and ensuring safety of all, the task of reconstruction is a very heavy and longterm challenge.
In this auspicious year of the Sheep, His Holiness the Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang led two hundred pilgrims from all over the world up to the sacred Lapchi-Gang valley, high in the Himalayas, near the traditional border Tibetan border (4000m-5000m). His Holiness was received by H.E. Thritsab Rinpoche, most Ven. Nupa Rinpoche, most Ven. Drupon Dundup Palden, Tulkus and disciples from overseas.
